Fairy knots and Single Strand Knots

Single strand knots occurs at the ends of your hair strand just like split ends.

If you have natural hair of any type you know about the dreadfulness of Fairy knots. Fairy knots also called single strand knots or those tiny little knots at the end of your hair strand. They form with a single hair strand loops up around itself and creates a knot.

Naturally curly hair is well known for this major issue. So I want you to learn how to combat those tiny little terrors and win the black hair battle.

I see scissor happy naturals all the time cutting and dusting their natural hair to try and eliminate their afro hair from this issue. However no matter how much you cut off, these can still occur simply because the curly hair like to curl and twirl which means at some point it will wrap up within itself or another nearby hair strand.

Tired of single strand knots? Give your hair a break and wear a wig: Wig Tips!

First you need to take an assessment of your hair. Ask yourself:

•What is the level of health is my hair?

If you know your hair has been pulled through the gutter and you haven’t really been paying to much attention to it, now is the time to try and understand why your hair is tangling so much.

•How long has it been since I’ve had a good trimming?

A great hair cut or trimming can do wonders for your hair. Look into investing in good hair scissors to cut your own hair or finding a hair stylist that knows how to cut naturally curly hair. Also find out if they know how to cut your hair type. I have 4c natural hair and a lot of stylists do not know how to properly handle my natural hair so I simply trim/cut my own hair.

•Is my afro hair moisturized?

If your hair is not properly moisturized it can tangle and create single strand knots faster than you can say “boo”. Properly moisturizing hair reduces and prevents breakage, damage, tears, and tangles. If you really want to see these knot reduced include a deep conditioning treatment, hot oil treatment, and moisturizing hair products in your weekly routine.

•Am I wearing the right styles for my hair type?

Yes, I know that sounds a little prejudice but depending on your hair type some black hair styles cause more bad than good. Naturally curly hair has styles that it can do better than anyone else so embrace those styles and let them help your hair grow while eliminating fairy knots. If you want to never see a single strand knot again, wear your hair in protective styles. Wearing protective styles will leave so many hair woes in the past.
